Grand-Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge

Continental Tire kicked off the 2010 season opener: the Fresh From Florida 200 at Daytona two weekends ago as the new series sponsor for this years GRAND-AM series. They run a 3.5 mile, 12-turn speedway road course at the Daytona track. The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge is an endurance road race series and made up of two classes of race cars: the big-bore Grand Sport (GS) class features a rules package that allows exotic international machines like the Porsche 996 and 997, Nissan 350Z, BMW M3 and others to go head-to-head with American iron such as the Camaro and Dodge Challenger. The smaller Street Tuner (ST) class is GRAND-AM’s offering to the import and compact car crowd, with the Mazda RX-8 and Mazda MX-5, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Dodge SRT4, Mini Cooper S, Acura TSX, a variety of BMWs. All Continental Sports Car Challenge classes run on Continental ExtremeContact tires.

RSR Motorsports, with three ridiculously fast Mini Coopers running in the ST class, is certainly a favorite of the Pure Racing crew. The team is based out of Mesa, AZ and consists of (3) cars: 196, 197, and 198. RSR Motorsports are in their 4th season of the Grand-Am racing series and are prime to kick some ass in 2010. Randy Smalley, team owner and driver of the 196 car has built quite the team around his Mini Coopers. When asked whey they’re such a crowd favorite and how they manage to perform so well, Smalley responded “We’re hands down the leaders in Mini Cooper racing technology”. Most people haven’t seen much Mini Cooper racing, if at all. To any casual observer, the Mini would seem an underdog to the field of heavier cars. Smalley states that it’s attributed to the lightweight car, braking, and handling, then added “No one can take a turn at the speed we can”.

197 and 196

We’re proudly featuring RSR to showcase how these Minis are holding it down against all the bigger stouter cars. Sure, Pure Racing helped with the racing graphics package for the fleet of Minis. But these Minis can flat-out tear up a road course! Last year RSR snagged pole at Virginia International Speedway and had the fastest lap at Miller in Utah. The team’s dedication, skilled crew, and accomplished drivers will likely place them on the podium very soon.

Speed Channel is broadcasting the race tonight, Feb 13th at 7:30pm. Be sure to tune in to see the absolute finest road racing by the hottest international and domestic stock high-performance sports cars, coupes, and sedans. These are the same sports cars you see on the streets and highways every day. The only major mods permitted are to improve safety. Porsche and BMW

Parker & the Dust Brothers, Live in Arizona

Sounds like a great album, no?

All kidding aside…what could be better than Super Bowl Sunday? How about spending Friday and Saturday at the Parker 425, where they’ll be balls out racing, beer and bad ass toys. A hot lap through the blackjack tables at the Blue Water Resort and Casino is a must before hi-tailing it back home Sunday in time for pre-game.  That is what’s on the ticket this weekend for the Pure Racing crew.  We’ll be joining up with the notorious Dust Brothers Race Team, BITD fans, and anyone else out there being awesome.  Parker is on the Colorado River about 20 miles south of Lake Havasu.  Forecast calls for sun and 70 degrees.  After a little rain this week, it should help lay down the track a bit. To catch some live footage from the race, visit the Best in the Desert website.

This Best in the Desert race is only 3 laps, but each lap is around 140 miles! The casino is within spitting distance to our pits.  These guys know what they’re doing!  The Dust Brothers are native to Arizona.  Solid group of guys on every count.  Ya know, the kind we all admire that put every dime and ounce of time into their passion.  It’s simple philosophy for Bubba, Hondo, Dave and Kiko.  Race, sleep, eat, and race.  A life built around speed, dirt, and beastly machines enable them to be extremely capable at winning any event they enter.  Especially when you consider their several decades of experience.

This class 10 race car has a brand new motor and tested positively this past Saturday.  The engine was roaring like a tiger and the handles were dialed.  Look for a strong effort from the Dust Brothers Saturday on a track they know very well.  Rest assured this new set of graphics will keep them heads turning at contingency, on the track, and parading around state freeways on the flatbed.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the Pure Racing crew.  We’ll have some hats & shirts to give away like always, but they’ll be sure to go fast.  So if you are late bumping into us, you’ll have to settle for a cold beer.

F1 Motor on a Dyno

Whoever thought watching a video of a motor would be this exciting? It’s crazy to think about the amount of fuel these bad ass engines garble up every time you hit the gas.

Moto GP Highlights and Crashes 2009

Posted by: blair     Posted in: Moto GP,Motorcycle racing,Superbike     November 24, 2009

With 18 Grand Prix races in 14 countries, Moto GP is the world’s premier motorcycling championship.  Over the past decade, Moto GP has really stepped up their game by allowing the evolution of the four-stroke engine in bikes, and while we wish Moto GP style bikes were street legal, these bad boys are purpose-built racing machines meant strictly for dominating the competition. By doing this, it has allowed for the sport to become a spectacle as racers hit corners faster and compete on new levels. Pair this with faces such as Valentino Rossi and Dani Pedrosa, and you’ve got one of the most invigorating forms of racing to ever exist. Seriously, if you aren’t in the know, check out the Moto GP website here, and make sure to gear up for the 2010 race season.

Need some visual proof to the ground work I laid out above? Check out this video I found on the Moto GP channel on youtube. It gives you a sneak peek at some of the best action from Valencia 2009. Enjoy!!

In June of every year the biggest names in motorcycle sport head to the UK for what is arguably the most prestigious motorcycle race in the world. The Isle of Mann sits about half way between Britain and Ireland in the Irish Sea. The best teams, manufacturers and fans come from all across the globe to witness the legend that is the Isle of Man TT.

The official website – www.iomtt.com features highlights videos, photos, important information and results of the 2009 race. You can also purchase tickets, DVDs, Collectables and schwag at the official Isle of Man Shop.
They’re already planning the 2010 festival starting May 29th. As they put it “TT will burst into life for another two weeks of the most awesome between-the-hedges racing you can witness anywhere on Earth”.

If you haven’t seen this before, You’ve got to check out some YouTube videos immediatley. There’s a few good ones posted below and you’ll clearly see the level of insanity. If you’re familiar with the race, hopefully you’re one of the lucky few to have attended or actually raced it.  The Pure Racing crew would relish any comments or nuggets of wisdom from anyone who’s ridden or spectacted this race.  And just to show some love to the civilians, couch potatoes and non-brits, HD Theatre has been airing all the heats the entire month of November. You can see when it airs here.

The first race was in 1907 and saw single-cylinder and twin cylinder classes where the winners averaged about 36 -38 mph. Now a days, the superbikes are averaging over 130 mph with top speeds approaching 200 mph. This 37 mile track is very unforgiving with 300+ turns.  The hair pin turns and straight aways are riddled with jumps narrowing to just a few feet between stone walls.

They run several classes from Junior sport, 125 and 250cc, 360 Superstock & Supersport 600cc, sidecar class, and the big time class featuring the biggest, fastest 1000cc Superbikes. The big manufacturers are heavily represented at the Isle of Man TT: Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki. 2009 saw Honda sweep the top 5 spots during the main Dainese Superbike TT race.

Pure Racing’s B. Hatz says it perfectly, “These guys are f*ck*ng crazy!” I’ve yet to meet anyone to argue with that.
